Jasper engines and warranty problems

I just got off the phone to Jasper engines and had a long talk to them about
the 455 motorhome engine. To date they still remanufacure the olds 455
engine but have stopped on the motorhome version due to excessive warranty
problems.

There CEO is revisiting the issue today after discussions with him. He did
not know of the size of our potential market. I need to furnish him with
some facts and ask for our assistance.

I need to know how many have a jasper engine, when it was bought and if you
had any warranty problems with it. I know that Emory Stora bought one and
another from Florida although I do not know his name. I simply have not
heard of these problems and want to ensure that the info thart Jasper has is
valid.

I think we can reverse this decision if we act very quickly.If you belong
to a club than ask your members for help.
Would everyone agree that a slight increase in price is OK for a good engine
or not?
 
Just received another call from Jasper and have an update. They have not
and I repeat not made a decision to totally stop remanufacturing the GMC 455
motorhome engine. They have experienced problems with failures and are
trying to find out what the exact problems are. Either quality of furnished
components from their suppliers or defective installation and maintenance. I
believe it is a combination of both.

If we want a reliable source of engines at a fair price we need to act on
this now.

Jasper is as concerned about this as we are. Their management was not aware
of the size of the market for these engines.

Another example of cutting our own throats maybe. If we want these
suppliers to stay in business than we have to use them. In addition
everyone needs to know how to properly service them for longevity.

I'll put my name in the hat too. I will be needing another
engine sooner or later (hopefully later) as I have over
130,000 miles on my 455.

I want to have a lot of options available when it comes time
for the engine to be rebuilt. I'm guess I'm lucky (except for
Winter weather) to be living in Michigan close to several
good places for engine swaps.

I have an airplane too. My experience has gone to going
with the original engine (when it has a good history) and
having it rebuilt rather then getting someone else's rebuilt junk.

Maybe I'll have to change my approach with the GMC.

I tried to talk to the VP that the cancellation. He was gone for a week or
so they said and would not let me talk to anyone else. I had two salesmen
(Dameon and Marty) do a cross on 455 Olds and they both said they were
discontinued as well.
This is a very serious problem w/ALL GMC coaches since most are getting
close to the 100K mile mark or better. I would have gladly paid more if I
could have gotten one. In fact I did pay more if you goto

and see what Jim Bounds and I ordered. Looks nice and should be a great
replacement but at $2K (plus $400 shipping one way and $500 core) more thats
a BIG difference. You may well all be in this boat one day soon (I hope not
for your sake) but now is the time to speak up, guys.

need one for my GMC.

Simple question. I can not figure out which number on my glove compartment
box shows the model. I was told it probably was a Painted Desert. Original
color is white. I suspect that it may actually be a Transmode. Did they
supply Transmodes in 1973? What level of outfitting was provided on a
Transmode? The bath and cabinets sure look like those in the Palm Beach I
rented a few years back. I am confused but not disapointed.

An increase is not a problem to me when you start comparing other prices.

Check the VIN Interpretation page on my web site(www.gmcmotorhome.com). It
has a section on the "build codes" also. IIRC, one of the digits in the VIN
will identify your coach as a Motorhome(GMC or Gemini finished) or
Transmode(finished by others).
