Hello to all; I've been looking for my 1st GMC and nothing scares me more
than buying a coach with a defective frame, at least without knowing it
upfront. I was hoping some of you could enlighten me on inspection
procedures and if what I'm doing sounds correct. Of the 6 coaches I have
looked at, 2 have had bad frame rails at the rear wheel area, or at least
thats what I think. Looking from the back of the coach, I look 1st for
straight rails without bumps, creases or deformations. Then follow up with
inspection of the frame rail in the open side with a high power light. One
I looked at this weekend had a driver side rail that was creased at the
cross members in front & behind the rear wheels and was bent severely where
the boogie attached. Does this sound like a rotted frame? Accident victim?
I couldn't get underneath to confirm it rusted out. Three of the coaches
had what I would call very straight rails with minor ripples at the same
cross members in front of and behind the tires. Is this ok if no visible
rust pitting is present? Are other sections of the frame a major problem
or just this rear wheel area? Finally, these frame rails look like they
just unbolt. Has anyone replaced theirs?
Thanks.
