If I commute in a TOAD will I get Warts?

I think I will take the plunge and get a Tracker 2dr convertible
w/2.0liter engine and 5speed. Are there any dealer options I should
select?

Is my bumper mount hitch on the GMC going to be strong enough for a 2300
lb Tracker? If so, I will get a 2" receiver hitch for the Tracker to
use as a bike rack... or to attach the GMC in case Katie's teen
magazines and makeup put too much strain on the engine.

Input appreciated.

Ron,
You got a couple of answers on your June 8th post on this subject. Did you
see them? At any rate, look in the Trackers handbook to find out what
configurations you can tow before you shell out the bucks. If you are going
to pull a Tracker with a GMC you better have a hitch that is attached to
your motor home frame or you will eventually lose it and maybe kill someone.

Rob,
My Tracker handbook on page 4-41 has a paragraph titled "Towing your Geo
from the front." The first item is a notice that says "If your vehicle has
automatic freewheeling hubs or two-wheel drive, do not tow it on all four
wheels. If you do, your transmission could be damaged." It then goes on to
say "If you have a four-wheel-drive vehicle with manual freewheeling hubs,
it can be towed from the front with all four wheels on the ground." It then
gives the procedural steps to take to do this which are to have the steering
wheel unlocked, Automatic transmission in Park or manual transmission in
second, Transfer case to neutral and hubs set to "free".

As to the Hitch, all have a load rating by the manufacturer and yours should
be checked through them for its load rating. It is my opinion that our OEM
bumper is much too light to handle the stress of towing over a ton of weight
during extended periods. It will flex until it weakens and breaks. That
will leave an unmanned free wheeling vehicle loose on the highway. Not
Good!

I hope that explains my message.

I suppose that that would be a bad thing. I will definately get a frame mounted
hitch.

Maybe we could get Jim Penrod to translate.

I picked up my new Tracker yesterday. I had to pry Julie and the kids
out of the thing. I think the convertible was a good idea. With
incentives, end of year discounts, my brothers GM discount etc, if I had
put any more money down, they would have had to pay me!

Can anyone suggest a tow bar/mounting plate combo for a 2000 Tracker?

Gene. You are amazing. Everything I ever wanted to know is right on your
web page, except how to get Julie out of the Tracker.
