Some of you probably noticed that Michael's eye passed almost over Americus
and wonder about our situation. Yes, it was wet and windy here, but really
not as bad as I'd expected. We had 8-10 momentary power outages but never
lost electricity for more than a second.

We had a LARGE pine tree fall early on, but that's probably my fault -- it
had been leaning for years but looked healthy so I hadn't had it removed,
as I did many others. What I didn't expect was that its top reached one
end of my 40' Sea-Land storage container. There's damage there, but I
haven't had a good look at it yet -- it's still dark outside. There's
PLENTY of downed pine limbs, needles, and cones, but apparently nothing
else major.

Thanks for checking in Ken. Glad to hear you're fine and no significant
damage. Wasn't bad in ATL either. Sharon and I were just down in
Apalachicola two weeks ago - looks like they took it on the chin!

Ken,
Watching the national news, it looked like Michael was going to be a Cat 4 well into Georgia. My immediate concern was for your family and you. So
glad to hear that it was not as bad as first thought for you. Still very bad for those on the Florida coast. Thanks for the update. Calmed our
nerves.

Ken, glad all is well. You know how I feel about pine trees.

Glad to hear you had only minor damage, Ken. I know you have help with the
yard work, but I've always looked at "picking up sticks" as
therapy/exercise. And if it rains and the wind blows, those pine limbs
(one of my favorite trees) will get wet and they will fall.

Glad you and Elaine and your town are OK.

Hey, Sandra,

How long 'til Y'All can get here? I've got PLENTY of "therapy/exercise"
for you. If 3 acres where you can't walk without stepping on a pine limb
or cone isn't enough, I'll take you to "Silver Sneakers" with me.

Full hookups, 80* weather, and LOTS of "therapy/exercise" -- what more
could you possibly want? :-)

Glad to hear all is well, Ken. I don't envy you the cleanup. I have trouble keeping up with an acre and two thirds of natural Sonoran Desert, where
things grow slowly due to the dryness. ;) I've always thought I would like to experience extreme weather like a hurricane, but I'm pretty sure it's
not as fun as I imagine it would be.

I do consider "picking up sticks" to be like "fitness training". I did it
for 30+ years with pine trees at our River house. Kinda liked it.

When Ivan hit Foley, we loaded up our chain saw and Bob sawed the trees in
my cousin's yard in Foley, and her husband I toted the pieces and stacked
them at the street. Good working together.

We'll be driving to Alabama beach tomorrow, but must decline your kind
invite to enjoy your "fitness training". Good luck with your cleanup.

That type of work is very rewarding to me. You can see that you've made
progress. Good luck. Don't work too hard.

Ken,

Glad you and Elaine are OK and you did not have major damage to your property. Let me know when you get it all cleaned up - don't want to get there
too early this winter, ha, ha! We will be down that way after the first of the year. But, seriously, if there is still "to dos" Margie and I would be
happy to pitch in.

I will keep you updated on our plans for travel East. Got to get out to California first - leaving in a couple of weeks for that trip.

Take care and don't get too much "exercise / therapy".

Ken H.:
We all thank you for the update, your good fortune, and the fact you sustained only minor damage at your property.
Today’s temps here are 35 low, 42 high, in Peoria, IL. w/ snow flurries just 30 miles N W of here! Oops - looked out kit’n window to see snow here also. We will get out of Dodge 10/28/18 as we head for Kingsland, Tx. w/ expectations to arrive 10/30/18.
Our last GMC 6 Wheeler rally here is next week Thur. thru Sun.
Thanks Again,

If you are picking up sticks that way, you are correct that you better "rent one"... and not use your own tractor. Even after picking up all the
sticks I can, having tree's is hard on my Garden Tractor/leaf vac. My problem in town is I have to haul out everything to the city compost site.
I can't imagine trying to maintain more then the acre I have. It would really eat into my GMC time.

Glad you are OK Ken, even the midwest storms that are nothing compared to a hurricane can wreck havok!

Rent one?

Hey, you coming to the 49ers anniversary rally in Colfax November 9-11? I hope so, it'd be great to see you.

I recently invested in a Harbor Freight wood chipper. It works great (so far) and turns a big pile of branches (about 2" - 3" maximum) into a bag of
course mulch in short order.

Karen,

Yes, we are planning on the 49ers rally. It is hosted by our friends, George and Ruth. We have spent a lot of time in Colfax. It will be great to see
you and Dan again. Just saw a memory thing on Facebook that it was 4 years ago that we were at Treasure Island. I think that is where we first met.

Thanks, Jeanette,

A neighbor removed the downed tree on Sunday and I've now got the remaining
debris removed. The damaged roof on the storage building will be repaired
on Friday when my son, with his sons, and a couple of other workmen arrive
with the materials I've ordered. We'll be "whole" 'fore we know it --
unlike those poor folks in FL & S. GA who've taken such an awful beating.

Fortunately, most of our GMCers, and other friends of ours, in the FL
Panhandle seem to have come through pretty well: I've talked to John
Nicholls, John Richardson, Ron Davis, and several of those other friends.
Everyone reports that they, and those they've contacted in the area, had
little damage -- they're all west of Panama City & Mexico Beach.

Ken H.
