Wow, this discussion has gotten a bit heated! My 2 cents is that in a forum
such as this, the information spread, many times to some of us who aren't
tech experts (me), should be as close to "by the book" as possible.

When I was younger I worked on the ferry boats that crossed the great south
bay here on long island. There was one buoy that every one seemed to cut
short in order to save a bit of time and fuel. As each new captain came on
board, he was taught that it was okay to take this shortcut. I noticed,
however, that each time someone learned that taking the shortcut was okay,
that shortcut got bigger and bigger and we strayed into shallower and
shallower waters. Eventually one early morning run was cut short when the
ferry ran aground, destroying 3 props, 3 shafts, and a rudder post ($$$$$$).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it is human nature to take shortcuts
or bend the rules. I see nothing wrong with this from a personal standpoint,
as I am no lover of rules either. That said, I don't think it is wise to
teach shortcuts or rule bending to the unknowing as they will then take your
shortcut, and make there own shortcuts from there.

Obviously everyone has their own opinions and personal preferences, but in
this forum, where many of us are learning the ABC's of GMC's my feeling is
that "by the book" is the best way to educate. Once we have learned how the
book says it, we can all figure our personal preferences and opinions into
the mix, and do what makes us happy.

Don't want to offend anyone, just wanted to toss in my thoughts. Tony Bad
