Most high line cars are on an “extended” oil service schedule. For several years 15,000 mile filters have been used. Think of this fact (for us old school mechanics) The average new car will just have received its third oil change when its warranty expires. It’s a new world, and I’m not saying this is bad, its progress. Who wants to buy a used car?

How do you get rid of the old contaminated oil as you can'y drain it. If
your out to save money, do so,but the quality of oil will not be as good,
with acids and other contaminants being higher.

They are made for vehicles with 15K oil change intervals (which is commonplace now for new cars). So it changes just like any oil filter just at
longer intervals. Hell we had a 2006 mercedes with 15K intervals, so it's not even a new thing.
They aren't intended to be left on while you change oil every 3000 miles.
Just a marketing gimmick to sell the higher priced higher mileage filter to those that have longer factory service intervals I would suspect.

A lot of Mercedes take 9 quarts so more dilution by volume. For the price of a 15k oil change at the dealer, you could change your oil every 3k so 5X
and still come out cheaper. Not to mention the other required services they find when you bring it in.

Even my 2006 Chevy HHR comes with essentially a 7500 mile interval. The engine air filter is set for 50K. Newer passenger cars haven't been on the
3000 mile/3 month schedule for more than a decade. My wife's 2012 Honda Odyssey is at 10000 miles using 0W20 oil. And it comes out looking pretty
clean when I do it. It's a whole different world. I can run my GMC for a couple hours and that oil will look dirtier than my wife's OW20 at 7000
miles.
