Hello to all,

Just recently purchased and drove 110 miles home a new to me 1976 26' Transmode w/455 & 370 final drive.

1st time owner of the iconic GMC motor home, and that was my 1st drive! Always have been drawn to these so...Let the adventure begin.

Thanks to all who contribute to the wealth of information that can be found here, lots to dive into & my to do list is getting longer :)

Which one did you get, Marley?

For the purpose of locating and keeping track of all Classic GMC Motorhomes.
Please fill out and submit the online form at www.gmcmhregistry.com/contact/form.html
(There are currently over 9,140 GMCs accounted for)

Find the VIN tag is on the firewall behind the passenger side hood.
Or on the inner glove box door tag.
Or on the title.

* Note about the Build Date of your GMC: From the decal on the inside of the glove box door - look for a number on the top line just left of center, similar to "032174". This example indicates the build date as March 21st, 1974. *

I'll reply with history I know about your GMC.

Thank you
Billy Massey

Marley a warm welcome! Regardless of weather. And congrats on your first of many great miles.

When you get a chance I suggest go into the /account/signature menu, add your year, model, major mods, and city or area. Knowing location helps line up potential sources of local parts and other nearby resources.

Welcome!

Welcome, and congrats on your purchase! There is a GMC Cascaders group on Facebook that will familiarize you with a lot of the locals. They have rolling rallies every year that look like a ton of fun, but we haven't been able to join in yet due to kids' sports. We have a lot of great members in the PNW though.

That's great you were able to find a coach with 3.70 gears! I just got mine this year and they make an amazing difference.

Yes Welcome! I too am almost 3 months into ownership, and this site is full of helpful info and resources and people.
At some point soon we need to get a get-together scheduled for those of us in the EUG/SPFD area of Oregon/PNW; there's quite a few just in these two cities! 😁

Thanks again to all, heard nothing but positive things about the GMC community and I'm digging it. I'll definitely be checking out the Cascaders group.
The PNW rallies and a possible get-together sounds fantastic to me, although I have some road worthy items on my list to take care of.

I remember those days (2023-2024). A few thousand dollars and it was drive-able at highway speeds in a straight line.... 😖 :ROFLMAO:

I was so annoyed the first year; was really wondering if I had wasted a good chunk of change. Then it started to drive straight and everything changed. Now I take it out on the weekends and just drive it around town because I like driving it (the Pres. of the Cascaders says it now drives better than his😁). I just need to start trusting it won't breakdown on a longer trip and leave the valley (all trips so far have been less than 100 miles one-way).

That's where I'm at after putting a new...
...well, everything--into my Palm Beach. We did take it over the divide to the Wasco Co. fair and White River Falls in late summer though. I was paranoid! It did just fine though, but I do have a very over-active fan clutch. I've had three over-active fan clutches now, so I think I'm just going to "recalibrate" one of them rather than buying new ones. They're super easy to change out with my custom fan shroud, so I can afford to do a little experimenting.
