Ok, I agree with everyone on all the negatives etc. Yes the parts suppliers
are good, but some are way overpriced for what you get. Perhaps the KISS
principal should be applied here. Kep It Simple, Stupid. A loose
confederation of people, and it need not be more than 20 or 30 of us.
Decide on the spares that should be around, if we make mistakes so what.
Set up a genic engine - not the top of the line Mondello, but not the parts
store factory rebuild. Something useful and acceptable.
Perhaps we go so far as a longbblock with intake & carb. Build 2 of them
have them dynoed and tested, keep one in east and one in west. Do the same
with the large pieces -ie Trans, final drive, complete front hub assemblies
etc. We do not have to do this all at once. Build up a moderate inventory
over a period of years. It would be an insurance policy, if nothing happen
your out of luck on getting your money back. Sort of the old "Mutual" aid
idea. We could even set it up close to insurance with a dedutible specific
for the parts. Deminishing deductible the longer you are in. This would be
built on trust not $$$.
