Grounded speakers with no rear fade

Thanks for all the grounded speaker comments. My real issue is that the front
to rear fade doesn't function. This is with an aftermarket stereo/ FM with front/
rear and left/right fade. Has anyone had this problem?I haven't even gotten the dash apart yet. What holds it besides the perimeter
screws?

Just a shot in the dark, but it sounds like who ever installed stereo may
have hooked both front and rear speakers to same output.
