Gravity Water Fill Cap

I've just led a sheltered life: While RVing since 1958, from Key West to
Fairbanks, PEI to LA, I've never found myself in a situation where I had to
use gravity feed.

I agree ya'll ought to have the capability! :-)

Finally got a chance to pick one of these up. 1.25" PVC threaded cap from Lowes not only fit perfectly, it had the right threads. Went on like it was
made for the purpose. Less than a $2 solution that took no time since I was already on the way to Lowes for something else. Thanks Billy!!!!

Hello,

Here arround (europe) the gravity filling is quit common, build in the sidewall of the RV, or behind a hatch, on the other hand city water connections
very rare.
We fill our drinking water with a hose, directly, or with a special cap which has a Gardena hose coupling on it.

And for some rare circumstances I always have a watering can of 10 liters, also when sanitaizing the system handy in use.

And many times you have to use your own hose, what I consider, good, since you know the condition of that one ...

LOL, I've never used the city water hookup in any of my coaches though I guess it's been available a few times. It's all dry camping for me, so I
fill up in the driveway, and refill as needed wherever I am, a cart, a bunch of 6 gallon containers and a little effort- or if I'm lucky a hose that
reaches the gravity port.

Someday I'll get a transfer pump to make it easier.

We are not " young, with kids" but I do have a job occupies part of my time. And as a matter of fact, just last month we were camping in Michigan's
Upper Peninsula (Hog Island State Forest campground) and needed water. The only water that was available (besides what was in Lake Michigan) was from
an old fashioned hand operated pump similar to the one pictured. Fortunately I had a bucket and a funnel in the pod for such an occasion. In no time
we had a full tank and got some exercise as part of the deal. Campgrounds like this are really our favorite places to camp. They are cheap, mostly not
crowded and have terrific scenery and hiking trails right right next to the campsite.

We use water from sources like this several times a year which is why we keep a clean bucket and funnel in the pod.

AFAIK, boats and RVs have similar water systems. My GMC, 30' travel trailer and the cruising boats

I have owned have/had "gravity" fills for the on-board fresh water tanks AND "city water" connections

to pressurize the water lines. The two water systems are NOT connected other than at a "downstream"

combiner with one-way "valves" to keep them separated other than the lines going to appliances.

I cannot fill the freshwater tank other than by the so-called "gravity" feed.

If you don't have fresh water in the tank, how will you flush your toilets when you are not on "city" water?

What say you, Matt Colie?

When I moved my electrical cord, and water fill to behind the licenses plate. I just have a hose connection that has a pressure regulator in it that I got from Applied GMC. That feeds to a electrical system that I got from Ken Henderson that automatically controls the water level in my 40 gallon fresh water tank. This fills the tank fast. I put an emergency over flow pipe on the what was 1.25 inch fill pipe port. Just in case.

I think the issue is the the ones from 1970s and the current ones are a different thread. I bought a current one at local General RV and found the
cap didn't fit. So I stole the lanyard from the new one and transfered it to the old. Fixed. Looks like you have to install the entire assenbly to be
current.
