Hey All;

I have this Good Sam Roadside Assistance thing. Does anyone know if this
also covers my other vehicles (like for towing) or is it just for the RV?
Thanks.

According to the website it covers all your vehicles. I haven't had to try
it out yet though.

Hi Gary; good Sam covers all your vehicles including motorcycles, your trailer, and even your kids car if they're away at school. They have their faults, but this part of it is pretty comprehensive

Hey Ethan;

Thanks for the info. I couldn't find where it said everything else was
covered. I have State Farm as my regular insurance and I am paying for
towing on each of them so I'm thinking of dropping that on each of their
policies.

Seems to me a call to Good Sam is in order.

Gary, thank goodness we have not had to use it for our GMC, but we have
used it twice for our granddaughter's car (owned by us). Response was
quick; however, they have their limits about where they will tow to.

GS roadside towing covers your "Fleet" (RV, Towd, daily driver, Pickup, garage queen)
and those of your off spring. It does not a landscape trailer with a Cadillac FWD
(commercial?! trailer??) with a blown tire. Have used them 3-4x and so has my daughters
under my subscription. Probably broke even on the service rendered and aware they are not
a "white glove" service.

Last Summer on a Sunday in August we were stranded on a remote Forest
Service Road in Western Oregon, when our our 1977 Palm Beach lost the
driver's side lower control arm, when the wheel literally snapped off.
Once I explained the need to be towed to a component repair facility
appropriately 100 miles away in Eugene, Oregon, Good Sam responded by
sending a big 10 wheel wrecker, which delivered us to the service bay of a
qualified facility called Trisand, Inc. Fortunately they had us back on
the road in short order (with much help from Ron Montesi,
Jim Kanomata, DJ Eberhart and Cinnibar). Good Sam picked up the $1,750.00
towing fee with no hassle!.

Before we left Texas with our newly acquired GMC Motorhome, I had wisely
reinstated my Good Sam membership opting for the special rate for three
years of roadside assistance for something like $239-269. I believe I'm
ahead of the game at this point!

I first signed up for Good Sam's coverage something like 25 years ago when
we bought a small Class C Toyota Dolphin Motorhome at a cost of something
like $100 a year (membership+roadside assistance). In the first 10 years
or so of coverage I only had 3 tire blowouts, which Good Sam took care of
appropriately. Value of each service call perhaps $100. I dropped my
coverage for the next 15 years and "self insured" for roadside assistance
needs, saving myself well over a thousand bucks in annual fees.

I'm sure glad I decided last Summer to reinstate Good Sam's plan before we
imbarked on that six thousand mile journey in a new to us 40 year old GMC
Motorhome.

We're about to take off again from Texas for another two months of travel,
exploring the Pacific Northwest, Western and central Canada, and the U.S.
Midwest for the eclipse, before returning to home in September. I'm sure
glad I have Good Sam's coverage ( and they have not sent me a "sorry,
but..." letter!

Hugs,
Vern

Good Sam theoretically covers all vehicles.

All the services deliver service at the whim of the local contractor, but
my problem with Good Sam was with Good Sam more than the provider.

A few years ago, I spent the evening catching up with GMCnet because I'd
run out of gas on the ramp from I-295 to the Capital Beltway. There was a
wide shoulder on the inside of the curve, so I was never really in danger
(except that it was in an elevated-risk part of town). Good Sam could not
resolve my location--they had no way to enter a ramp. They were unable to
transmit verbal instructions to the provider. They insisted I was in DC,
but I was in Maryland. I could provide lat-long coordinates, but their
system couldn't find an address at that location (freeway ramps don't have
addresses) and they wouldn't use it.

After four hours, the state's courtesy patrol brought me a gallon of gas.

Yes, I was driving home from DOT Headquarters in DC, and it's a little
embarrassing for a Federal Highway Administration employee to call for
courtesy vehicle aid, but my head was full of the meeting I'd had that day
and wasn't paying attention to the gas gauge.

Even though I know that any of the providers could have screwed up just as
badly on any given occasion, I dropped Good Sam and went with FMCA when I
renewed. I also have Allstate coverage.

Lot depends on the people that are on the phone.
I end up getting disgusted at 80% of them as they just want to take you to
the nearest one only.
And that shop can charge you big bucks as they know you have no choice.
I have a AAA one with 200 mile limit. It works for us as they will take us
to anyplace I want up to 200 miles with no hassle.

Hey Guys;

Thanks for all of the info and the great stories. I have this coverage
until Jun of 2020, and if it's going to get me tow'd then I really don't
need the SF towing. Will cancel that today. Hey Vern, if you get to the
Yakima Valley, let me know.

We have GS...my Mini Cooper went into limp mode a block away from the Holland Tunnel (NY side) during rush hour, despite a long wait for the tow
truck, they had no issues towing it 40+ miles back to NJ.
