Contributions received in the past week from:

Rick Staples Dave Greenberg
Eric Tipton Ken Fitzgerald
Terry Skinner Phil Dickinson

Total received to date $2,115.

Amounts spent to date:

Toshiba Libretto 110CT $1,680
PCMCIA CDROM Drive $180
PCMCIA Modem $80
PCMCIA Serial Adaptor $76
Total spent to date $2,016

Balance $99

I'll probably buy a case for the computer and a 32mb memory upgrade, and
that will probably take care of the balance. Looks like it's a "wrap"
to me. If any additional money comes in, I'll apply it toward our
hosting charge with mailinglists.org for the upcoming year.

I've sincerely said "thank you" many times over the past four weeks and
I've been kindly admonished that I should be saying "you're welcome".
So here's a big "You're welcome" to all of you who helped ease the
burden. It's nice to be able to give the list the attention I feel that
it deserves again.

Your friendly neighborhood GMCnet admin,
Patrick

I would like to be "philosophical for a moment." as well. What strikes
me as great about this forum is the fact that so many people actually did
what they said they would do. Back when we started to talk about getting a
laptop for Patrick lots of folks said they would chip in money. I really
expected that when it came time to give, only a hand full of members
would actually do so. No one had to contribute, but enough did to raise
$2,115. I think that's terrific! It's so easy to say you will do a certain
thing,
but when it comes time to actually do it, its all too easy to just sit back and

watch others do it. It sure shows how much we all appreciate the
work Patrick is doing on our behalf.

As for me this is the first time that I have ever sent money away to anyone
from the Internet. My wife thinks I'm nuts (I can only imagine what Patrick's
spouse thinks). Also, this is the only place on the Internet where I am
completely
open with my identify, home address and other personal details of my life. In
other places on the Internet I'm worried someone will use by private
information
for bad purposes.

Thanks Patrick and everyone else on the GMCnet,

In fact, the reverse happened in that many more people gave than
piped-in when the concept first came up.

And I wish there was someway I could communicate how much that means to
me without getting really schmaltzy. You'll just have to take my
word for it.

The really funny ones are my kids(10 and 13 year-olds). When the checks
started coming in, they were amazed and wanted to know how they could
get people on the internet to send them money. I tried to explain to
them that I was providing a service that was valuable to these people
and they were sending the money to support that service. I still don't
think they really understand.

That's the great thing about mailing lists. On a good list, a sense of
community develops. That's one of the things that made Marion so neat
for me. My first GMCMI rally and I already "knew" about 50 people
there.
