GMCnetters,

A couple months back, I posted about my employer's plans to "upgrade"
our notebook computers. One result of this upgrade would be that it
would be impossible for me to "admin" the list from my "work" machine.
Not a big deal when I'm in town, as I have a desktop in my home office,
but a big problem when I'm travelling. When I mentioned that I was
considering purchasing my own subnotebook to handle these chores,
several of you chimed in that you would like to help defray this
cost(including a veiled threat from Heinz as to what might happen if I
didn't let you help). At that time I decided to "wait and see" how
the new system would work out and continue to "window shop" for a
subnotebook.

Well, I've decided the time has come to act as I'm not real happy with
the new system. The new notebook is OK, but there are some aspects of
the IT infrastructure that I'm not too keen on. So I've decided to go
with the Toshiba Libretto 110CT. Street price is around $1600 - I
figure close to $2000 by the time I add a modem card, CD drive and
additional memory. I might be able to save a couple "C" notes if I can
pick up a factory refurb'd unit, but the Libretto's are tough to come
by.

Contributions are certainly voluntary and I want to stress that point.
When I receive a contribution, I will confirm by private email(please
write your email address on your check) to the contributor that I have
received it and the amount. Unless requested otherwise, I will give
credit to each contributor here on GMCnet, but the amount will remain
confidential. Approximately once a week I'll update the group on the
total contributions received unless doing so would reveal the amount of
someone's contribution. I only plan to do this for one month or until
sufficient funds are received to cover the purchase cost. Any overage
will be applied to the operating cost of GMCnet for the upcoming
year(approximately $200).

I'm open to suggestions to improve this process as I'm making this stuff
up as I go along(although I have borrowed heavily from an airfoil
development project that I was involved with on another email list).

Those of you who wish to help, mail your contributions to:

Feel free to email me privately concerning this or call me at 404
818-1717(W) or 770 486-0783(H).

I wish to profusely thank all of you who've offered to help.

I've just mailed a check for $25. Hopefully this will help. I'll be happy
to send more if contributions fall short.

Thanks for everything,

GMCnetters,

Contributions were received from the following this week:

Mark Grady Glyn Trimble
Sandy Davis Richard Missett
Scott Nehoda Roger Black
David Lowry John Bush
Marion Hope Henry Davis
Pete Papas Phil Stewart

The balance stands at $1925. If all goes well, the Toshiba Libretto 110
should be on order this week. They're getting tough to find - not sure
why, but I think CompUSAnet has a few left.

I'm still planning to wrap this up this week. If you'd like to make a
contribution, please do so this week. After that, this project is
history. Thanks to all that wanted to help make my task here a little
easier!

The address is:

Patrick Flowers
110 Roscommon Court
Tyrone GA 30290

Thanks again!
Patrick
