OK folks, semi-lurker here, but, I have to wade in here on the subject of
tires. True, back in the 70's, D rated tires on the GMC were a problem,
however, things have changed. I have had my GMC for 10 years and have
always run General LT225 75R 16 load D. I have been back and forth across
the U.S., Canada twice and to Alaska and back once. I replace my tires
every Five years no matter how much tread is left on them. We live in our
GMC 6 months of the year and I weigh it at least once a year, when it is
loaded to live in it for 6 months. Other than picking up an occasional
nail, I have never had a problem. Blow outs are usually caused by OLD tires
or OVERLOADED tires. The weigh station guys at state lines have been nice
about weighing my coach. I only stop if the truck lanes are empty. I have
each individual wheel weighed by A Weigh We Go at the FMCA rally's. So far,
the most total over weight I've been is 200 lbs. at any one time. I just
put on new tires in preparation for our 6 month trip. Thanks for listening.

Just a thought, which you may have already considered, those truck ruts
may have gotten quite a bit worse in 6 years.
