This sugestion may be too late as several days ago someone was asking
about removing the rear spindles. Having just removed all four of mine,
I am now a qualified expert on rear spindle removal.( just kiding).
Some monthes ago, someone suggested threading into the holes where the
four bolts go that hold the spindles to the arms. I noted that
suggestion and have now tried it. Here is what I have done. The whole
proceedure is not for the timid of heart, however, but it does work.
1. Likely to do all this you will need to have the arm and boggey
removed from the vehicle.
2.Remove the four bolts and brake backing plate from the arm.
3. From the back side of the arm thread a 7/16"x 14 tap diagonally into
at least two of the holes. Be sure to thread in deep enough as one has
to put alot of pressure on these two or more bolts, and you don't want
them to strip out. I had no trouble with just using two.
4. Using a puller bar (if you have the OTC 927) likely it would work or
you could rent one at a tool rental co., use course thread, 3/8 " bolts
diagonally and then start tightening up on the centre screw of the
puller with it going into the small centre dimple at the back of the
spindle.
I didn't use heat, and maybe I should have, but I found the spindles are
on very tight and one has to ratchet up the pressure very tight even
with a large 3/4" braker bar and tapping. I also used a very sharp
chisel at the edges to help get it started.
5.I also loosened the hat shims that the pins go into and found them
very tight. Had to put 10 -12 tons of pressure on to break loose.
Hope this might help.
