GMC steering

Got my brakes on the front and bled, new shoes and I wiggled the steering
linkage after I put on the front tires and the "idler" arm or pitman arm,
which ever it is called is terrible, What is the part number and where do I
get it?

Terry,
I think there are 3 arms all with different names. There is the pitman arm
which is attached to the steering gear box on one end and a tie rod on the
other end. The other end of this tie rod connects to the relay arm. The
relay arm has a bolt in the middle which mounts to the frame cross member.
The other end is connected to the main tie rod which connects both front
wheels together. It relays steering commands from the gear box to the main
tie rod. There is an idler arm on the passenger side that is hooked on one
end to the main tie rod and the other end is connected to the same frame
cross member mentioned above. That description ought to make it at least as
clear as mud. I hope it helps.

I can't get the GMCmart page to work, but Jim Bounds has all three steering
arms listed in this month's GMC Motorhome Marketplace.

Thoma also rebuilds them and I think with an grease fitting ? if it is the
same arm.

It is the relay arm that is bad and it is not the bushing in the middle. The
tie-rod type end has lots of slop. Took it out for a 30 mile spin tonight
and it jump pretty good in some bad ruts.

Terry,
You should be able to get a new tie rod end at a reasonable price and it
should be easy to change. It might be best to call Cinnabar. I don't
recall anyone posting part numbers for these. Do you have the phone number?

The steering arm is not available new. You can get yours rebushed &
rebuilt at Buskirks and it will be like new. They might even have units
available for exchange. Call Max Monday morning 800-715-1133 an he can
help you out.
