Do yourself a favor and install a ITT-Jabsco Mascerator pump. No shut off
valve req'd. Pump the effluent thru a 7/8th or 1" garden hose. No fuss-no
muss!

You can buy the insulation mat'l from JC Whitney for about $23.00 for a
4'x8' piece. It looks like felt on one side and aluminized reverse. It
goes on with screws and washers and really works to keep heat and noise
out of the cockpit.

Anyone
>ever
>put halon system in there engine compartment?

I don't think Halon is legal any more but try JANA Assoc, Norm Kasch a
GMC owner, at Little, CO tel:303/795-9281. They sell Hawk Auto Fire
Extinguishers.

>store I don't know about?

Try Caspro at 1/800-877-1911 and get their catalog. All GMC stuff.

Any other improvements that I might accomplish while the whole
>undercarriage and frame are naked as a babys butt?

It would be a good idea to join GMC Motorhomes, International and get
their parts cross reference list. Also, GMC MH Marketplace Magazine
carries ads from most of the main vendors/suppliers to the GMC Community
and lots of ideas about improvements. You can get a complimentary copy by
eMailing a request to Stephen Galovic, Publisher at: galovic
Mention my name and he'll even sell you a subscription. Also, if you
haven't already, join your local GMC club. A great resource for help and
suggestions. With over 150 GMCs in Ohio (theat are Registered) you will
have lots of company.

> If any of you long distancers are in Cleveland, and need a safe

Maybe in July when Ohio warms up and the dump station is in, okay?

JANA doesn't sell the Halon ones anymore. Apparently the supplier quit
making them due to lack of demand or was it an EPA regulation?

I wouldn't mind getting some fire protection in the engine compartment as
I'd never get the roof off the doghouse in time to do any good :-) (or
rather the goodies off the roof of the doghouse).

Current Airplain'ers: do they still use Halon extinquishers in the engine
compartment? I used to have one(two) in the Cheyenne I flew... but that was
pre-GMC days, i.e. a real long time ago.

>Actually, halon installations in large boats have a Halon over ride
switch because halon causes the (diesel) engine to starve for oxygen and
when the engines shut down you lose steering/navigating capability. The
over ride mounted at each helm enables the skipper to maitain steerage
if necessary.

I had a huge Halon bottle installed in the engine room on my boat and
never had a problem. I think the EPA is out of control. Halon bottles are
not being triggered every day. As has been previously stated cows are a
bigger menace to the environment than Halon extinguishers!

Heinz,
>From what I've read, effective 1/1/94 no new Halon could be manufactured in the
U.S, in response to the "Montreal Protocol". An attempt restrict materials with
the potential to destroy the ozone layer. The alternative is FE-241, a
liquefied compressed gas, classed as a "clean agent" by the EPA, meaning it
leaves no residue. However it takes more to do the job. I don't know anything
about aircraft engine compartments with Halon systems, but boats use them. West
Marine, Boat U.S., Defender Industries all sell these systems. For example,
West Marine has Kidde FyreWatch Automatic Extinguishers for a 75 cu. ft.
engine area selling for $160 on their online store(www.westmarine.com).

Amen about the cows. The BLM and the CDF get paid to let the cvows graze in
the mountains on private property. Then CDF and BLM close all the roads
saying the people are ruining the rivers down stream. It is the cows.
Thanks Chuck a mad and unhappy cow hater that has to replace many post and
barbed wire to keep the critters off the private land. Cows cannot read.

Troops.....I had a fire marshal here in Oregon tell me that if you have a
Halon extinguisher that you own, it is legal to have it refilled until
there is no longer any Halon available. I haven't taken the time to check
this out, but I do carry a Halon unit in my toy.........
