The installation wiring of the OEM Converter is very simple as follows.
The OEM Converter/Buzz Box has DC two wires coming out of it plus the AC
power cord. The + lead (RED) is attached to the Fuse Distribution Bus
(or junction point that supplies the + 12 v to the Bus) & the - lead
(Black) is attached to the coach chassis. Also sometimes a safety ground
wire (Green) is attached from the coach chassis to the converter chassis.
The AC power cord is plugged into local AC receptacle. That's all there
is to it.
The Fuse Distribution Panel services the House DC loads via each fuse.
The OEM Converter/Buzz Box is a poor battery charger, however it is a
good converter in suppling DC current to the House loads. Not much of a
chance of making it not over charge the batteries if it is left on for
long period of time.
Best solution is to upgrade to a Modern Smart Charger/Converter.
The Todd Engineering Converter with the Voltage Controller (AD-2) or the
Statpower 40 or 40+ is a good choice for the upgrade.
My choice is the Todd Engineering converter/charger PC-45B (45 amp) since
it is US Made & comes with Lifetime Warranty verses one year/Canada Made
(Shipping/Customs delays for Repair) for the Statpower Unit. Also the
Todd Engineering Unit is cost effective (about 1/2 new unit) for
performance provided. Todd Engineering has been around for quite some
time as a US made product & provide excellent warranty support if
required (very reliable unit).
