Duane there is a 2 3/4" rear shoe conversion that seems technically sound,
works and is reasonably cheap. Remember the brake drums fit 2 3/4" shoes.

>Don't bother with the 2 1/2" shoes. Pit of snakes since the spacing will
>be wrong & major modification to make correct. Negative results will
>occur....weak support etc. The 2 1/2" shoes will not give better
>stopping even after proper modifications. Only longer operating life
>over the 2" OEM shoes. Go to GM asbestos shoes for better stopping &
>still get 60-80k miles when properly adjusted (manual adjust @ 5k miles
>interval). With the manual adjustments the rear shoes will do its share
>of the stoping & still last a long time. The force applied to the brakes
>is a function of the wheel cylinder size, not the brake shoe size.
