GMC Motorhome dealership photos?

I just read the Bill Bryant article “Story of a Classic: The GMC Motorhome” (HERE). It’s a great read. I’ve only had my GMC for about a year now, so a lot of the history of them is new to me. I love that GM opened up specific dealerships for a single vehicle. Does any one have any photographs of an original GMC Motorhome Dealership? I tried to Google some, but no luck. I also tried to look through this forum and the GMCMHPhotos site, but couldn’t find any. I have no real need for it other than pure curiosity.

While I have not read the articles, I can tell you that the two dealers nearest to where I was living at the time were both GMC Truck dealers.

While there were stand alone GMC MotorHome Dealerships, I believe as time went on GM realized it made sense to allow some existing dealerships to sell GMC MotorHomes as well.

GMCMI is a great source for GMC MH information and history.

My coach was sold from such a dealership here in Michigan. Red Holman had several dealerships. From what I understood at the time (short part of a long story), GM wanted the coaches to NOT BE associated with GMC truck dealerships. So, they often (known in this case) set up the Motorhome dealership on a separate lot close by. When a coach came in for service of any kind, a porter would take it to the truck garage and bring it back.

Don’t forget, the GMC MotorHome was a competitor to those truck chassis builders. In fact the Chevrolet and GMC truck Divisions made sure the GMC MotorHome Got NO special treatment.

The Dodge truck chassis had by far the greatest usage for RVs.

I know you are right about that, but there was one special. The OE wheels for out coaches came from Motor Wheel (now defunct) but the coach group had a tighter run-out spec for acceptable. MW didn't mind, they just shipped the ones that did not pass to GM truck.

Curious when a customer brought in their GMC for service, did any of the dealerships (either stand alone, or combo) have vehicle lifts, or pits? A standard car lift at a dealership probably wasn't up for the job to a 26' vehicle.

In 1978 had warranty work done on my 77 at an Olds/GMC Motorhome dealership in Concord, CA. It had a dedicated annex with two motorhome capable lifts and two (I think) additional bays for MH repair. I also saw a Buick and a Pontiac dealership in the LA area with about the same setup.
