In correspondence with an avid GMC afficionado, I was reminded of the 1981
movie, "Stripes", and the GMC that starred in it, doubling as an M-50 Urban
Assault Vehicle.

The movie is available on video. It is a comedy, good watching, especially
for GMC fans. The GMC that was used appears to be a Palm Beach model, with a
slightly altered paint scheme. The lower half of the body is a darker green
than the upper half... and it looks STUNNING! In the scene where the "UAV"
first appears, it looks BRAND NEW... absolutely sparkling!

Does anyone know the story about the GMC that was used in the film? There is
nothing indicated in the credits.

Glenn,

Same with the GMC that was used in the movie "Twister". Absolutely
nothing in the credits as to who might own that coach.

My wife & I were both extras in "TWISTER" and spent 5 days on the set with
the GMC motorhomes (plural). There were two, one for interior shots that
had a shelled engine and had to be towed between sets, and one for exterior
shots that ran well but was rough finished on the interior. The one that
didn't run had the rear cap modified so that it hinged up like a hatch back
and was really neat, with wall to wall computer gear on the inside. I tried
to buy either of them but the transportation chief said that it would be
impossible, that they were leased and would be returned to the owners at the
end of filming. There were several other modified vehicles in the film such
as the GMC Surburbans with "dually" rear-ends, etc. It says alot for the
style of the GMC motorhome that after 20 years, it still looks futuristic.
We finally got a 77 Royale recently and are getting it back in traveling
shape.
