Took a Honda portable generator from work in for repair yesterday (carb
float has leak through). Figured it would be easier to let the pros do it
this one time, we're self maintained 99% of the time.
They have two new models, the EU1000i and the EU3000is Go to
http://www.honda-generators.com/generators/lightweight/index.html
limited specs, some pictures. Click on lightweight and/or deluxe.
Anyway, these units are very quiet and can be 'ganged' together to make
greater capacity. They use an 'inverter' to produce power electronically
they have a perfect 60hz sinewave output.
The EU3000 is about half the size of a regular 3k unit, so is the 1k unit.
The EU3000 has electric start, load sensing, oil sentry, etc.
Just throwing this out, there isn't a remote control panel available, and it
would be a long way from a drop in replacement for an Onan.
The 'retail' price for the 1k was $789; 3k was $1,995.
I was trying to remember what Hienz had installed, but couldn't remember the
model or price for comparison.
FWIW, all the Honda stuff is quiet, but these set a new standard of
comparison. Both units are extremely quiet; composite ratings are 49-58dB(a)
For the curious, we use portable generators on cable TV power supplies when
there is no commercial power (heat or storms) until the electric company
gets their stuff working again.
