Dave,
Actually we love to sit in the car on the sometimes cold and rainy days
here on the beautiful Oregon coast and have someone else fill the gas
tank. Check our gasoline prices ($1.08 today) and you see that it is a
small price to pay --- and thousands of minimum wage jobs are created;
lots better than paying out welfare!!!! Maybe oather states should
consider this approach to cutting unemployment/welfare.

Gary:

Given what I hear in many parts of the US, I have a hard time believing
that business owners are able to obtain competent help at the minimum
wage. If they do, bet they have nightmares over liability!!!!

Anymore, most places can't even get applicants for a minimum wage job,
and if they do undesirable work habits come along too.

I'm not convinced that's the answer to "cutting unemployment/welfare",
because they can get more money that way vs. a minimum wage job.

I couldn't believe it when California started letting ordinary people fill
their gas tanks years back. I thought it would be a night mare for insurance
companies. While I was the Safety Officer on Vandenberg AFB we had a fatal
accident at the gas pumps. It was when the cars had most of the gas inlets
behind the license plate. A young lady was filling her tank and the car
directly behind her did not turn off his car. His foot slipped and that's
right he killed her dead on the spot between the two bumpers. I never did
like letting people fill their own tanks, well for that fact I see lots of
them out there that should not be driving too. Progress is coming and change
is inevitable. I had a friend tell me once we need everyone. Thats the only
way we know we are sane. Chuck

It's not lack of skill, it's the wet weather webbing between our fingers that makes it difficult to hold the fuel nozzle.

I must write my State Representative to get legislation passed next session to
prohibit Oregonians from pumping their own fuel in Missouri. This could be a
disaster. I am sure that out high officicials are not aware that that skill is
not taught to you all out there. (g)
