Gas Tanks

Greetings -

We've got some gas tank projects underway in Southern California. Coach #1 has tanks out - ready for work. Coach #2 is awaiting results from Coach
#1. Coaches 3,4,+ are queued up.

The initial quote for cleaning was $400 per tank - and the quote for refurbishing / lining was $900 per tank !!

Needless to say - we were shocked.

Anybody care to provide estimates and/or costs for cleaning and refurbishing their tanks ??

Maybe this is a California thing...

Think a couple aluminum custom built tanks would be cheaper, any custom shop can do it, maybe with enough interest and a few people pooling
together,the price on custom tanks would come down too

Manny, who lives in SanJose, California had tanks made for his Diesel Coach
conversions. If I remember correctly, the one single tank installed where
the two GMC tanks go. Part of the crossmember had to be removed.
Eliminates the double pumps, a whole bunch of hoses, a troublesome electric
tank switch. Don't know about the cost.

I've got a good friend here in Americus who owns a machine and welding
shop. He's built several aluminum tanks for his own custom cars, as well
as for customers. If there's interest, I'll ask him for GMC tank prices.
Chances is are, though, that shipping from our corner of the US will be
pretty expensive.

Let me know if you're interested so I can give him an idea of market size.

On a another GMC subject: Ken Frye told me a couple of days ago that he's
got a bunch of engines, mostly 455's, but a couple of 403's, ready for
installation. He won't be doing any more installations, he says, so won't
warranty the engines -- the prices will reflect that. That's all I know,
except for his excellent reputation, so contact him directly if you're
interested.

When I did my tanks about 10 years ago, they were really clean inside and only a little dirty on the outside. The coach lived in Texas/Arizona all
it's life, so no rust, and the ethanol gas had the inside spic and span. The sending units worked (and still do) so the only expense I had was the
fill hoses, and the fuel lines/vapor lines.

You may find that the tanks don't need any more than a good cleaning and some paint (on the outside).
