Just found the following on the net regarding a Volvo owner. Is this safe?
Roger
"There is one way to fully drain the automatic transmission fluid.
Disconnect the line that goes from the transmission to the radiator at the
radiator end.
Put a rubber hose onto the end of the line. Rubber hose should long enough
to where you want to put a bucket big enough to contain 10 quarts. If it is
a one person job then you may want to put the bucket right by the driver's
door.
Have 9-10 quarts of automatic transmission fluid opened and ready to go.
Place the long funnel to add transmission fluid.
Start engine
Auto. transmission fluid will start coming out at the radiator end.
As it comes out add new transmission fluid.
Once transmission fluid comes out clear turn off engine. Connect radiator
line back. Add more fluid if necessary.
In this way the whole automatic transmission fluid is new.
So as to collect the metal shaving from the automatic transmission fluid one
can place one or two magnets around the drain plug. These magnets are the
size of big quarters(2-3 times the size). "
