Peer,
I ran into a problem on Double Trouble, sometime before I purchased the coach the Main/Aux switch had been installed upside down,
when the switch was in MAIN it was actually in AUX and power was being applied to the selector valve.
The afternoon Helen and I were leaving Houston on a trip we were at John Sharpe's home about to pull out with the engine running
when the OEM gages died! No fuel level, no oil pressure, etc. we did some quick trouble shooting and found a blown fuse so I
replaced it but it blew again. We needed to leave and didn't have time to dig into this so I went to an auto parts store and bought
a mechanical oil pressure gage and "tee'd" it in. I felt that was the only gage I REALLY needed.
When I had time I did some trouble shooting, found that the selector valve solenoid had failed which caused the fuse to blow. After
replacing the selector valve I discovered when testing it that the solenoid actuated when in the MAIN position and turned off when
in the AUX position. That indicated that the switch was installed up side down. I thought I could just flip the connector over but
that wouldn't work as it only went on one way. To fix the problem the switch had to be removed from the panel and turned over and
that's a big job! I wound up making a couple of Dymo labels - AUX & MAIN and sticking them on the dash to indicate the selector
valve position.
I reckon the reason the selector valve failed is it was on constantly for God only knows how long!
The wiring is weird, I don't understand why the selector valve gets it's power from the instrument circuit.
Regards,
Rob M.

Subject: [GMCnet] Fuel Tank Selector
Quick question: Do I understand the schematics correct, that the fuel
selector switch only applies power to the fuel tank transfer valve, if
FUEL AUX is selected?
