Removed my right front hub and wheel bearing today. Easy to get the hub and
disk off (took me about 20 minutes most of that to take the three bearing
retainer nuts off).

Removed the bearings from the hub using the OTC 927 puller and the split
ring provided by a friend. Was not easy, it came off very very hard. Good
thing is that the puller steadily pulled the thing off. After getting the
bearings and spacer off the hub and cleaning the bearing up I found the
following:

1. The inner bearing had spun on the hub at some point.
2. The inner bearing had been pressed on with some tool that distorted the
cage(actually shaved metal off the cage) causing the rollers to heat up and
discolor.
3. Outer race of the inner bearing had spun in the knuckle. have not
inspected the knuckle yet for any damage but it feels OK to the touch.
4. Outer bearing had spun on the hub and knuckle at some time in the past
leaving scratches in both.

5. Bearings were japanese outer race 4TLM104911 and inner bearing
LM104948E. Spacer was not marked so could not tell what the axial clearance
was. Spacer was crudely made.

6. Grease looked like tar.

The coach drove fine before parking it a couple of months ago.

Wonder how many other coaches have front wheel bearing problems like this
and the owners don't know it?

Has anyone tried to renew the hubs using the spray metal technique and
having them remachined?
