Your 2, suspension air compressors each have foam air filters built into the compressor head. Due to age. They've become a sticky/flaky material that can cause your solenoid valves to leak air from the air bags. A Q tip, and a vacuum cleaner seems to work to get the very small filter material out. Use a 5/16th nut driver to remove the 7 small bolts. Lift off head. You will see the filter, or the rectangle hole that it did reside in. Haven't found a replacement filter material YET. But will notify when I find a replacement. At this point. No filter is better then what you have now. This late system is very simple. Compressor, start relay, solenoid valve, and an electronic eye. Bob I haven't seen the EL II pumps in person, but are they single piston like what GM used on E cars Riv/Toro/Eldo? These have a barbed inlet tube.
The Buick Turbo cars used an AC Delco 218-13 or GM 801528 foam filter on the wastegate solenoid to keep dirt out. It is a square foam about 1" long
and 3/8" in the square dimension with a hole to slip over the barbed inlet. They come in boxes of 10. I put one on the pump inlet on my Riv and it
fits perfectly. If there was one there originally it was long disintegrated. I have picture but rhey always exceed size restrictions here.

John. Could you send that photo to me. Sounds like a better filter then stock. The compressor in the 78 GMC seems to have been installed into GM products to 2006. Maybe even new. And is still available at GM dealer now. It's a single cylinder compressor. One of mine will go to 175 PSI. I'll send you a photo. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale

This also applies to the Dana twin cylinder compressors. On those the filter is behind the inlet fittings. Same deteriorating foam. On mine one was
gooey the other was gone into the crankcase for each cylinder.
