There was a time several years ago when I was very critical of FMCA management, both the volunteer officers and the small paid staff, for their unwillingness to accept the reality of a rapidly changing market. That all changed three or four years ago with the election of new volunteer officers, a significant reduction in paid staff and a new paid executive director. Now the organization has right sized and refocused itself to now be financially solvent with full accounting of revenues and costs for all activities. Those that cannot pay for themselves are being shut down or changed so they can. All the stuff you would expect and want from a well run organization.

Quite remarkable for a volunteer run organization with some 150,000 members (more than 75,000 family memberships). And, membership is increasing year over year.

FMCA is far more than a magazine. Read about and select from all the member benefits that are directly supportive of our GMC motor homes and I think you will find it a remarkable value. BTW, GMC owners have disproportionately large say in how the organization is run. The Board of Directors is composed of one person from each FMCA affiliate club. The Board determines policy, establishes the budget and selects volunteer officers from those who step forward willing to serve. The officers plus one person elected by the FMCA reps from each club within each of several regions make up the Executive Committee who meet throughout the year to oversee the small paid staff and all FMCA activities. So, if there is something you don’t like, or think should be changed to make FMCA more responsive to your needs, call the FMCA Rep from any of the GMC clubs.

Also, if you think someone within FMCA at any level is doing something you think constitutes malfeasance, there is an independent group of volunteers, elected by the Executive Committee who serve as the Review Council to whom you can voice your concern through the filing of a formal written complaint. The Review Council will do an investigation and make a determination of recommended action. That report goes to the Executive Committee for action. The Review Council members serve for a period of two years so every year half the RC members are new. Each year a new Chair is selected. I served as Chair of the RC last year.

So, you have as much say in what FMCA does and how they do it as anyone. There is no they, only we.

I understand the privacy of any individual complaint and its resolution. I don't agree that the number of them should be hidden. Tracking complaint
numbers from year to year will among other things tell the Ass'n how well it's doing. Further it gives an air of openness to FMCA proceedings at a
time when rumors and misinformation seem to be ingrained in today's society. FMCA is currently removing the past accusations of secrecy , this will
enhance the openness, or it can by being kept secret backslide. reconsideration of the policy is in order.
