Fiber Optic tape

I've got the dash apart to install a radio and a Digipanel. I would like the
lighting system for the switches to work - wiper, washer, lights, Fuel tank
Selector, Battery Boost, etc. GMC seems to have used a fiber optic tape to
light these. Mine doesn't work - the light bulb does, but the tape emits no
light. It's also broken off after the washer indicator. Are the directions
somewhere that I've missed for the repair of the tape? Is the tape
available? Is there a better solution now?
