Hi Gang,

Been off on vacation. Left GMC at home and drove 4500 miles with no
breakdowns and not one parts store. The mini van kept me away from NAPA but
it didn't reduce the WalMart expense by much. Spent a couple of days in
Fargo then stopped at Roosevelt NP in western ND then across Bear Tooth
Pass to Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Jackson Hole. Then had a swim in Great
Salt Lake (foul!) Thence to Dinosaur NM and down to Fruita, Co for the
animated Dino exhibit. This took 14 days so we beat it home from there.

I haven't had any grease under the finger nails for almost a month. First
problem will be figuring out where I left everything but barring any
catastrophies I hope to be running in a few days. I think I have most of
what I need so will start assembly tomorrow.

This thread on blower motors reminded me that when I got my coach the
blower motor was actually turning backwards. That was so unexpected that it
took me a lots of head scratching to figure out. It was hardly moving any
air at all then with the right blower It moves a little. High blower is
about what I would expect on low. Mine's a 75 PB so check yours; there
could be others with wrong blower motors.

I posted the mods I'm doing earlier and will provide summary when
everything works. I don't have a digital camera so the records will be
sparse. Everything is still apart at this point so if someone wants to come
look you're welcome. I know a couple of you are not too far away. I'm
located straight across the road from Spring Hill Campgound west of Kokomo.
It was in all the directories the last time I looked so you can't get any
easier than that.

Enjoy

Dick

I hope we get more on this from Tom, but GM used these same motors and fan
assemblies for years... As far as I know the range of similar motor/squirrel
cage was something like 64 to 92 I think....

Arch, I think Dick Kennedy over in Kokomo has figured out what to do to get
some real airflow, he did a total re-hab on his unit.

|I agree----I dont have to accept this. There must be a blower motor
|and fan combination out there that will give us a hair raising condition.
|Lets look for it. Do any of you old pros know the RPM on this motor?
|How does that compare with the motors of today? What about the
|squirrel cage blower----what is the pitch----how does that compare
|to cages today. There must be a way to move more air than we do
|now. Come on Tom where are you now that we need you.

You had a motor that wasn't put together right. The field coils were in
upside down, or got flipped when it was apart sometime.

Also, you can take regular film pics and we can get them scanned and posted.
I've got our county fair this week or I'd try to sneak away and come down
for a 'photo opportunity.'

Did you add your rear evap? How'd it work?

Mark,

The blower mower was riveted together so had to have been built that way. I
think the ones when I was a kid were held together by long bolts but not
this one. I Think it's still on the shelf with the exploded cone.

The pics from vacation don't match the experience very well so I'm not hot
on pics at the minute. Actually I do the movies and wife normally does the
stills. I'm not sure how useful pics would be. The blower box is difficult
only because you can't see it well. It's just a box with partitions.

Our county fair is also this week. I have an '56 Intl 400 I hope to take
over if all goes well. It's nothing special but I think it would make good
memories for my boy.

I'm adding the evap but am not done yet. After checking prices I'm going
with R-134 ($3.33/# at Sams) so will need to pull compressor to drain old
oil. I haven't worked on it for nearly a month. All this is a one time deal
so I spend more time thinking than working and I'm painfully slow.

Enjoy your trip

Emery,
Sounds like the faucet in my kitchen sink. It has a lifetime
warranty on the cartrige. About every 2 years it starts to drip
and I call ELJER's 800 number and tell them my faucit is
leaking. With no questions asked they send me new cartrige, I
install it and then and no more leaks.

This has been going on for over 10 years.

Too bad our coaches don't have the same warranty.
