Fan belt width these days

What belt are you guys using these days? Seems that Autozone no longer carries the Goodyear or Kelly Springfield belts in the #15 section size. I
tried a 1/2" wide belt but it is too wide and wobbles in the pulley. The 3/8" wide belt squeals. By the way the #15 width is supposed to be 15/32" not
7/16" or 11mm.

Fred,

With only serpentine belts, I can no longer help with specifics, but if
there are suitable belts available, you'll probably find them here:

https://couponfollow.com/site/vbeltsupply.com

They're pretty good about publishing specs on their products.

I suggest that you go back to AutoZone and ask for their Duralast house brand belts. They are made by Kelly Springfield and use the same numbering
system. I bought a pair there in March. Their specs say that they are 11.176 mm or .44" wide. (.4375" is 7/16")

You may have to go slightly longer or shorter if they do not have your exact size in stock.

The last 3 digits of the belt number is the length 1/10th of an inch. So if you wanted a 7/16 belt 38 inches long ask for 15380. If they do not have
it, ask what size the have with the next higher or lower number like 15378 or 15384.

I just called AZ locally and they do stock 15 series belts that are labeled 11 mm. wide.

I've bought belts recently from Vbeltsupply.com--their "automotive"
belts--and they are the correct width. In fact, they are a little more
correct than Goodyears of old, and I needed a larger size for the
alternator--the standard 15650 size wouldn't go over the pulleys.

I bought some from them. Every 1500 miles or so I need to readjust them. They keep stretching. They are made in India but seem to work well other
than I keep having to adjust them.

Ken,

I've never encountered that with any of the belts I've gotten from them
(for yard equipment). But then, I always buy them with Kevlar cords -- do
they offer that in their automotive belts?

Looking at the literature the Auto XL belts have Polyester cord in their makeup.

http://www.vbeltsupply.com/15380-1.html

If you read the first paragraph on the benefits of Kevlar they point out the difference between the normal polyester belt and the Kevlar belt construction.

http://www.vbeltsupply.com/a36k-wrapped-kevlar-belt.html

At the pricing level of the belts they supply they are most likely made offshore, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are of poor construction. Several here have used them without problems.

Your second link resolves to a blue ag belt on my iPhone.

In your first link, the cross-section diagram shows orange fibers. I saw a
post in the archive, that I can no longer find, where the poster received
correspondence from VBS that those orange bits in the diagram were Kevlar
(or something like Kevlar). Kevlar is a trademark for a proprietary
product, but there are other fibers of similar makeup that also minimize
stretch. I see some mention of thermal stability in the description that
would be unusual for polyester.

Anyway, I was going on that prior posting, and I wish I could find it.

I have Gary always trying to acquire the wide ones but our techs are saying that they seldom see any bottom out and think we're not addressing the proper tension. Also a new belts stretch after 2-300 moles so it needs to be retightenefor over tighten first time

Ken, I installed the Sanden compressor awhile back and it seems to need a 15630 belt rather than the 15620. I was surprised since it mounts on the
same plate as the A6 did. Does it stick out farther to the right? the 15630 takes me to the end of the adjusting slot.
Thanks to all,

Fred,

Is the effective diameter of the Sanden pulley the same as the A6's?

VBeltSupply's price for a 15625 is only $4.82. :-)

Rich,
The Classic V-Belts in the first paragraph at the top before you go hunting for the needed belt says that the cords are made of polyester. That is the only information that I can find on cord construction. They also say Most A belts are also available in Kevlar they are referring to the Kevlar V-Belts.

http://www.vbeltsupply.com/conventional-wrapped-belts/a-section-conventional-wrapped-belts?dir=desc&order=price

The Kevlar V-Belts that we would use or in the (1/2”) A Section Kevlar Belts.

I'll check that. Looking at it again today I'm sure the standard belt will work. There was a bolt that was too long mounting the unit to the A6 plate
that prevented it from swinging down all the way. That's fixed now so there is more movement.

I went to all the Autozones in Pensacola and all they carry is Duralast and they were all 3/8" wide. I don't know where Ken B. lives but maybe they
have very old stock. No Kelly Springfield or Goodyear available here anywhere.

AZ on line shows that their store at:

2800 N Pace Blvd
Pensacola, FL 32505
(850) 434-7455

has Duralast 15-585 "in stock" and available for "ship to home". I could not figure out how to search for 15-570

They also show 15-450 for Power steering "in stock".
and 15-610 for AC as "order in store" or "ship to home"

I do not remember what number or type of belt I ordered. They were 15-???. I go the numbers from you at Dothan. I looked to see of I could find the
order but now I remember that I ordered them by telephone so I have no electronic record.

Are the kevlar belts only available in 1/2". I ordered 7/16" belts, not 1/2" ones. They measured just slightly (a few 1/1000ths) over 7/16" when I
got them.
