This looks like it takes a lot of design, I would guess the average shop

could not put this together ??
I don't think so. The header pipes are very standard fare for any
muffler shop. The clamps used on mine are just very heavy duty.
Replacing the forward mufflers with two straight pipes are also a
minimum skill item. Bending the rear pipe so the muffler fit & could
exit in the stock location took a small amount of figuring but again not
above the skill levels of ordinary muffler shops. Trust me on my final
statement, everything got better when I had this done.

Heh Gang,Steve Ferguson's system is great! But if you have a Macerator, you
can work the pipe right up the frame brace and as gentle as possiable bend
it to the drivers side inastall muffler and then out the drivers
side.Holding tank was stubbed and will be used in emergencies. Cool up front
lower engine compartment temps, quite 1 muffler, responsive with the
Thorley's,Jus abot all us kids could as fo.

First let me say that the basis for this system is Jimmie Bounds
DUMPSTER.Next let me say that it is or aligns with My logic after 35 years
of makin n selin m suckers.

1.stock system is restrictive,to help the engine breath some sort of Headers
are used,Thorley is the most available.
2.OEM exits into a short exhaust pipe on each side and then into a muffler
,after which the Y pipe directs every thing to 1 side.Exhaust will stack up
behind these Oem mufflers at this point creating back pressure,But Most
important at this stage retaining/creating heat in the engine
compartment.New system consists of a solid Y pipe, removing any pack pressure
and heat from this area a long with the wieght of the 2 mufflers.
3.straight pipe no change here until you get to the re sub frame. @ the rear
sub frame bend pie to follow sub frame support .
4.Now comes the the lo restriction Camaro type muffler, you can then bend and
exit out the origanal location ,or as I did ,goe sroos ways and exit out the
drivers side.to exit out the drivers side you will have to stub, about 6 "s
left.of the dump tank pipe,no problem for me because I have a macerater and
the stub will be used for emergencies.
5. By doing the above I believe that the heat/sound is moved to the back of
the coach ,dissapating on the way much faster, before it encounters any
obstructions(mufflers).
6.Why didn't GM do it.Arvin Ind.supplied Gm with mufflers @ some where
around $3 to $4,00 a pop.Little experience with lo back pressure mufflers
ala Corvair turbos. No problem with Heat/Vapor Lock because of better
gasoline/higher octanes.Dont know for a fact but I doubt that Macerators
were Known at that time.
Thats one Mans logic yours may be different, which doesnt make it wrong.

I will prob. be limited by the warranty on my engine. They want to see a

stock system. This is critical to me for a few years. We need to start
tracking you guys who are taking this new direction. I thought I heard
that Buskirk was going this way also. Does anyone know if they are
going
to a no muffler system ?
Gene,
I believe that you'll find that the exhaust system has nothing
whatsoever to do with engine warranty. (And if it did I'd question the
rebuilders knowledge level!) Even new car Mfr's aren't critical in this
area. The only thing exhaust modifications affect on the warranty is
the warranty on the exhaust system itself.
A straight pipe over 16 ft long? You'd break all the windows in your
neighborhood. Buskirk, Jim Bounds & many others have gone this way of
the rear, single muffler. All it took to convince me was to look at the
underside of my coach & see the burnt, sagging insulation from the stock
system. It's all behind me now!
