Hello everyone, got back from Chippewa Falls (had a great time) and am back
to work on coach with a couple of questions, putting exhaust back together
and was wondering if it is fine to purchase grade 8 bolts 3/8-16 1 1/4"
and 1/8 inch flat washers from local store for the exhaust manifolds? was
not having much luck finding the GM 9440954.

Also doing the front end, wheel bearings, adding grease zerks, mostly in
good shape but I do need some boots, one ball joint boot has a tear so I'm
looking for those and is there a universal boot that fits the tie rod
ends? # 34 in the 78Z 6259391

Thank you!

Scott,
The parts# in the parts book are mostly discontinued.
You might want to visit our site and also use our tech svc to save some

Scott,

DO NOT use grade 8 fasteners on anything exhaust. (I guess you missed bolts and gaskets.) Gr8 are hardened alloy and not only do they like to gall,
but they will loose their tension when the exhaust heat normalizes (anneals) the alloy.

If you get done putting the exhaust and are not covered in anti-sieze, you didn't use enough.

Matt,

What grade bolts are you recommending?

I agree anti-seize is a must -

Ken,

Don't go to more than a Gr.2 unless you really need the bolt load. Stay with the Gr.2 because it will give you the least trouble with galling and
relaxation.

I have a really bad connection to the local WiFi I hope this makes it.

Ken, We use the standard Grade 5.
Never over torque them as the manifold nees to expand and move as it get
hot /cool.
Some say too tight contribute to cracking.

Thanks for the replies!

Matt, I did read that somewhere about Grade 8, probably another post reply
from you.

Jim, I will pick up some grade 5

*Any ideas about new joint boots?*
