I'm considering another approach to get my serpentine belt to line up better
now that the pulley is staying on. Rather than modifying the puller, the
following came to mind.
I'm considering replacing the 3 bolts that hold the alternator bracket to
the head with 3 studs and then but a 1/4 inch spacer on the stud (washers)
before placing the bracket back on, thereby moving the alternator a 1/4 inch
forward which should once again line everything up.
The question: Will this add unacceptable strain to the head area? The studs
will go in almost a full inch and the belt should be perfectly lined up,
perhaps reducing any strain that may currently be experienced by running
with a pulley that is slightly out of line?
