Another possible source for engine fire extinguishers is Norm Kasch

Norm used to make all the GMC Intl conventions and he sold automatic systems
which use(d) halon. I seem to remember he has stats on engine compartment
temps.

Yep - Halons are chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs) just like Freon and are under the
same restrictions.
