Hi Don,
I've had my coach for about 6mo. I believe they all came with Mechanical
pumps, (but not sure of later models, I have a 73) But some have added the
electric pumps for a booster for vapor lock conditions, Assist Mech. pump
for grade/altitude climbing? And also to prime Carb. after long storage,
Also a
ready-togo spare fuel pump in case mech. goes out. And I have heard some say
switch from Mech. to Elec. So I guess its up to you what you want to do for
the conditions you have. I have the Mech. pump. And a elect. pump(thats bad,
and is located after the fuel filter and selector valve near fuel tanks.
Elect. pump needs to be low press for the Q-jet carb. and a flow thur
type(meaning fuel can pass thru pump when off),or a bypass with check valves
needs to be added to fuel lines. ).I have never used the elect. pump. But
it would
have helped me once in a vapor lock condition, And can assist in filling my
mt
carb.bowl after
storage for faster start..But..........By having to turnover engine to get
Mech. pump to reprime carb. with fuel, This also lets the oil pump, pump oil
to my also dry engine before engine start. I tried mine after a long
shutdown.....Flipped the fuel pump switch....after alittle time pump
shutoff....Pumped gas pedal 3 times...turn key to start........My lady
started rightup, Choke on hi (mine showed 17-1900RPM)...... And my lady
started TAPPING I MEAN ATAPPING the loudest blues I've ever heard, Till the
oil made the return trip back to the pan......Last time I used the elect. to
primed the
carb.!!!!!! (guess you could turn starter till oil pressure comes
up
then use elect to fill carb. and start engine). I for one would have
one(after replace) Just in
case, But also will keep the the Mech. as my primary pump. They do seem to
last forever and work if kept clean. Hope this helps alittle.

I'm a new kid on the block; have had my '77 Royale about 4 months now.
All this talk about an electric fuel pump has me wondering. Did my
coach come with one? or is this an add-on?
Some else asked the same question. Never saw a response.
If I don't have one, do I need one?
