Those of you with EKE installed.... Do
you notice about 1-2 seconds worth of
pings when you take off especially under
load (IE. up a hill, accelerating
quickly, etc.)? I know it has to detect
some pings to retard the spark but
wondered how much or how long you have
noticed?

I have my timing at about 12 degrees
advanced and the sensitivity adj. at MAX
(4+). Been playing with the other
adjustment and have found if I set it
too high I loose performance going up
hills (pings for 1-2 sec). If I set it
too low I get alot of pinging (more like
3-5 sec). Seems if I set it about 3
there is a happy medium but still hear a
few seconds of pings regardless.

Does anyone know the vendor of the ping
detector? I wonder if putting a second
one (wired in parallel since there's
only one wire) on the other head would
help detect pings quicker? Just a
thought...

Nate,
It sounds to me like you are asking the EKE to eliminate beyond its
capacity. I'd retard the timing to 10 or 11 degrees, set the EKE retard to
3 IIRC and set the sensitivity to about mid point. FYI my much admired
mechanic says he has done a number of engines with burned pistons that have
EKE's installed. Mine is set to initially ping only under a very heavy load
and only 1 or two ping s to cause it to retard. I've got more power since I
installed it than I've ever had even though I switched to regular gas.

I have mine at about 15 degrees before, as checked by Lamy, and also
that i can hear about 1 to two seconds then the ping goes away.
Don't know exactly how long, but i think I have it set to about 3
1/2+ or so on the dial.
