Dipstick length

Any rational explanation and solution would be appreciated. Thanks for

Sounds like you have a handle on the problem. Drain the crankcase,
replace the filter and then put in the correct amount of oil and run the
engine for a few minutes before checking the oil level.....unless
someone has changed the oil pan or it has a large dent in it, what you
see is what is probably correct. Just re-mark the dipstick. Someone
may have altered the original tube or stick in the past. Measure the
length of your dipstick tube from the block to the open end and post the
dimension. Someone will pipe up with their measurement before the day
is through and you'll be able to compare. If noone has by the time I
get out to my GMC this weekend, I'll measure mine & post it.
