I hijacked a thread a few days ago and got Dave's number. He had cardiac surgery three weeks ago, a valve replaced. {Perhaps other stuff, I don't
know.) At any rate, as of this evening when I called him he's feeling good, healing well, and looking forward to GMCing this summer. He says the
traveling nurse today told him "You're doing better than you should." A bit sore but in good spirits and working on his pickup.

Johnny, tell him to be sure and do the cardio-rehabilitation. It finishes
the job that the surgeon started. Been there/done that. Got the scar as
proof. Working again.
