We used a vinyl spray they we got at a good automotive paint supplier.
The dash took about 5 cans as I remember. There is also a vinyl prep
solution from the same mfg you use to soften the surface prior to
application. We went from a dark brown to a burgundy and really like
the results. The name of the product begins with an 'S' and if no one
else knows the mfg., I will try to find it at home tonight.
I would like info on the steering wheel. Heinz has pictures on his
website & it really looks great.

Has anyone refinished an already refinished dash? Got to get rid
of the pink
motif! What is the best product for this? Also.....does anyone
know a source
for GMC steering wheels similar to those advertised in my past
issues of GMCMM
by Clasco?
I do have all of the previously posted info on GM replacement
wheels. Larry

Jim Bounds sells a very nice new steering wheel. It's leather wrapped and opens up the view to the dash significantly. Jim
says that the supplier calls the color taupe, but my wife thinks that it's closer to a grey.

I've seen the Clasco wheel in Paul Bartz's Royale. Except for the
embroidered GMC logo, it's identical to the leather wrapped steering
wheel from an early 90's GMC pickup. A friend of mine has one and I'll
call him tomorrow to see which model it is.

Nelson,
The leather wrapped steer wheel is basically from a van but it is custom
covered and the center vutton can be stiched in several colors, the red
lettering seems to be the most popular.

As far as covering the pink dash, I use a PPG brand product called "UCV
vinyl dye". A local commercial automotive paint supplier that carries PPG
paints will have availability of the product. They have a primer/sealer
prep. you can use to seal the offensive color from contaminating your new
color. They will be able to mix up any color in their chip book.

You will need a spray gun but a cheap one will work fine. The material
blends easily and covers well. There are flat, satin & gloss clear coats
available but I have had good luck not using them.

I would pull the side panels out to be sure no pink excapes the sprat gun,
pink has a way of showing up in cracks! Good luck, take your time and do
not take any short cuts!

Hope this helps.

Nelson:

There is another product you can use. It's Bri-Top vinyl color by
Mar-hyde, manufactured by the Talsol Corp. It is applied with a foam
type brush and looks undetectable when finished (i. e. dry).

It's usually available at stores handling auto body repair finishing
products.

If you need, call Bobby Moore (502-964-6416) in Louisville, who used the
above on his dash five or six years ago. Made it look like new.

It is my understanding that it was from a Chevy Astro and perhaps its
GMC equivalent..

The wheel is leather wrapped and the center cap (horn button) is covered
in leather with red embroidered GMC letters.

Don,

Will do. His GMC pickup is a 94. The wheel is black and has a
leather(possibly simulated) wrapped rim with the red "GMC" on the horn
button. I suspect that the steering wheel from any GMC product would
fit as I doubt that GM changes the steering shaft much from unit to
unit. I'll try to find one at a salvage yard to check first tho'.

The product I used was by SEM. I purchased it at an auto print store.
SEM also has a line of vinyl dye that we used.

Larry, my dash was redone but it needs to be done again. I know
there is
a vinyl prep you need to apply before the final dye color and if
I can
remember where in the world I filed those important part
numbers, etc.,
I'll post it on the Net.

Sirum bought out Clasco's supply, including steering wheels.
