Received a very long letter from Wes Caughlan today answering the question I
had asked him, "whether D rated tires should be used on the GMC motorhome
and the problems that could be caused by doing so". He thinks the issue is
so critical that he has decided to once again publish an article in the June
issue of the GMC Motorhome News. He referred me to the June and July 1983
issues of Motorhome and Trailer Life magazines for the complete article. The
two articles can be obtained from Trailer Life Magazine by calling
1-805-667-4366. They are titled "How to damage a tire and call it Defective".

He has asked me not to discuss the information until after the article is
printed in GMC Motorhome News for proprietary reasons. The request is
understandable and I will of course honor his request. After all Cinnabar is
in business to make money in addition to support the GMC motorhome.

I can tell you that the engineering information he has furnished me answers
many of the questions we have discussed, relative to failed front wheel
bearings, treads that separate, wiggle waggle etc. After reading the
articles you could not get me to use any tire except a full steel radial
belted E rated tire. I have a lot of confidence in Wes expertise and his
article will kill a lot of myths relative to the problems we are having.

Think about this. The GMC motorhome was the most extensively engineered
motorhome on the market at the time. Over 20 years later it is still one of
the most reliable coaches on the road. General Motors spent over
$125,000,000 to build just over 13,000 coaches from 1973 to 1978.
