A couple of years ago when cleaning ,greasing and reversing the drive
axles as part of the CV joint rejuvenation project, I replaced the boots
with the blue super boots. At the time I was sorry that I did because the
super boot is a stiffer or harder material than the original. The clamps
that came with the boots were a single wrap band which was tightened by
a pinching process at one point on the band. I was not able to get them
to be pinched tight enough so they would not leak out grease from under
the band. I was using a proper pinching tool to do it as well. I finally
went to a different band, did a double wrap of it on the large end of the
boot and tightened it as tight as I thought the band would take without
breaking. I didn't happen to have an inch pound torque wrench so used my
own judgment. They now don't leak grease! I noted that the original
boots were of a softer material and thus allowed the band to compress
down into the material, whereas the new boots are a pretty hard plastic
type of material. They are supposed to last well and I hope they do
considering the nuisance they were in finally getting them not to leak
grease.
That's the scoop from me.
