Tom sounds good to me. I plan to have my crossovers welded too.
I got the cast iron plugs from Edelbrock.

In spite of any opinions I have ee'd you I will say that I've never put
together an engine with an aluminum manifold (& many steel ones too)
that I didn't block the crossovers. Like I said before, I think the
exhaust pipes join together so close behind the engine that they act
like a balance tube, negating the one possible side effect. Absolutely
no problems encountered ever!. On the coldest of days it might mean a
minute or two extra warm up time, but I have a suspicion that most of us
warm these things up even on hot days before driving. I hope this
solidifies your decision or helps in some way.
