Greetings! Turns out that the double mufflers on my ’78 Eleganza need to be replaced and i’m wondering what brands/models people are happy with.
I have the Spintech (single muffler) on my ’76 Birchhaven, and its pretty loud and throaty,
and i’m sure that has a lot to do with it being a 455.
My Eleganza ( w/403 ) has always been pretty quiet and would like to keep it that way :)
I’m currently down in Tijuana again, and AutoZone and Napa here don’t have any of the models (part numbers) that i see on the Interchange… Flowmaster or Walker,... nothing. The installer here is offering a “Flowmaster quality” (generic) single muffler for $150. But i think that’s pretty close (or more than) what i’d probably pay for actual Flowmaster back in CA(?) ...so might not get it fixed this trip. But figured i should start looking into the parts, and the main question: If its indeed best to convert over to a single muffler…. or stay dual.
Thanks for any info and opinions, cheers!

Greg,
Get out of TJ and go to Oceanside.
Jim at Warners Mufflers is the one to go with. He owns the place and does all the work on the classics.

He has done all the mufflers on my 8 classics, including my old Palm Beach 455.
Last time i checked flowmaster has 3 different volume mufflers.
But I highly recommend his shop.

Warner mufflers. Off Douglass. Off the 76. Oceanside, Ca

I think a single muffler might have opportunity for a bit better ground clearance, but other than that?

that looks like the easiest option Jon, thanks…
Although i do have to measure my current inlet and outlet size to be sure…
