You need both. The 3.5 chain drive comes from using a sprocket from a
TH325 trans in combination with a TH425 drive sprocket. The chain is
also modified (shortened.) These parts last forever so I would just
find an Eldo in a recycling yard and pull the chain drive off of it.
You will also have the benefit of a matched set.
I've read more than one posting about how much better it is to use a
final drive vice modified chain drive to raise/lower the final drive
ratio.
