Cell Antenna cabling/splicing question

There's no such thing as a 'little' job anymore, it seems.

I'm changing my cell to a Nokia 6160 with an in-car-kit.

Antenna cable is too short and wrong end to boot. ( I used to have a nokia
with 3watt booster ).

The question:
Is it feasable to solder splice instead of redoing an end and then using and
adapter and probably another adapter to go old style to the smaller UHF, if
I can find them.

So you hams and/or cell wizards.... what's the educated answer?

I was hoping I'd get away with soldering the center lead, build up with tape
to simulate the insulation and then replace the braid and solder it in a few
places.

Thanks In Advance - Heinz

I think you are asking for trouble Heinz soldering the center lead and than
building up the insulation. You will change the impedance of the cable and
increase the VSWR of the antenna. Must be one adapter to do it. If I could
see the unit I am sure that I could get the adapter.

I guess it's a trip to Radio Shack tomorrow. If I can find a male UHF I
think I'll have it made. If not I guess my departure is delayed another day
:-)
