I am preparing to tackle that fun job of replacing the ceiling. I've
selected the material for such, but would like to know who has used
what for new insulation & how it was installed.
Thanks

I am not sure it will help you much, but I resprayed the foam that was
originally installed on the coach. Mine is a 76 and I am not sure what
was used for insulation on the earlier coaches. The respray worked
great, better than expected, and fills the channels to the edge of the
framing members. I had the whole coach done as it was totally empty at
the time. It even stops water leaks. Old holes in the ceiling and such.
It was fairly inexpensive and I don't have to worry about gluing up
another kind or even having to scrape off the old. If you want to go to
the trouble of masking off the rest of the coach I would fully recommend
this procedure. Good luck. You have taken on quite an undertaking.

I have just about finished ceiling and side walls. I used 1/8 inch ABS
plastic in 4x8 sheets that I bought from a wholesale plastic co. It has
a fine leather-like finish with no apparent patern. I used it on both
ceiling and sidewalls. I bought some additional insulation from a
fellow GMCer Bud Brown, 717-528-8324 who had used it on his re-do. It
comes in a roll with a moisture barrier, is easy to cut and can be held
in place with a variety of stickums. Bud was a lot of help to me in how
to take things apart and add some goodies while you had the space and
expos.

Edgar,

A bunch of folks have used luan plywood as the new base. Some have used
bath/kitchen vinyl materials. All of it is about 1/8" thick.

If you want to see what my wife and I have done in our coach, take a look
at www.henry-davis.com/GMC There are a number of ceiling shots and pictures
of our partially replaced headliner.

Irene used reflectix bubble insulation in the ceiling and walls. Makes a
big difference.

I used the aluminum sided insulation with the air space in between the
two layers of aluminum. It works vy well and is not too thick. I put in
all the places I could, sometimes three layers thick if there was enough
room. I used 1/8" luan mahogony for the new ceiling. It looks great.
Under the 1/8 wood, I put ina 1/8" foam ceiling pad that insulated but
more importantly gives some give to the ceiling. Then I put on the new
fabric on. The whole thing looks wonderful and seems to work real good.
I also put in a 3/4" dropped ceiling in the center to change the look of
the ceiling and to allow me to put in the new recessessed light fixtures.

If you are coming to the rally in Albuq you can see what I did. Also
what Tom Bradley did to his. Lots of remodel to show off.
