CD ROM CHANGER

Ed,
I recently installed a Kenwood KCD-D712 10 disc CD changer.

I installed it during my headliner replacement project. The unit is
connected to and controlled by my Kenwood KRC-S205 radio.

I installed the unit in the locker above the dinette in my coach. I
ran the control cable from the radio, through the dash and behind
the plastic side panel by the passenger seat. From there the cable
goes up to the locker by passing inside the side panel just aft of
the passenger side cockpit window. It was an easy install for me
because I already had all that stuff out.

It works great, but it would probably be a real pain in the a@@
to install it the way I did, unless you already had the side panels etc.

My Kenwood radio and CD changer installation, located in the overhead
cabinet behind the driver's seat in our 78 Royale, sounds nearly identical
to Richard's.

Ed,
The side by the driver's seat is different. In my case there is an
air conditioning outlet there. Also I don't have a locker behind the
driver's seat. So, I didn't take that side out.

There were 2 problems with taking the passenger side panel out which
may or may not relate to the driver's side.
1) I found that there were 2 screws that connect the side panel
to the front dash. Those screws were only accessible by
removing the glove box and reaching way in. Of course
the screws are in backwards (head of screw facing away from
my arm).
2) The plastic side panel was installed before the decorative trim panel
behind the passenger seat. That panel fits in a groove in the plastic
side panel. I had to basically rip out that side of the dinette panel.
I covered up the damage with a piece of aluminum "H" trim I got at
Home Depot.

Since you want to go down the drivers side panel, then up to the cabinet
behind the drivers seat, my experience probably does not apply. So take my
advice and call Jim Bounds on "FREE" Friday. He should be able to tell you how
to get all that stuff out. He was a big help in my case.
