I have read with great interest all the comments on oil and oil filters and
I have come to the conclusion that some of us like blondes and some of us
like brunets.
So in that vane here is my opinion. For the past ten years I have used
Baldwin Filters on the diesel engine in my sailboat. Now I didn't always
change the oil when I should have, but it sure was easy to change a filter,
and I did. After running the engine for 15 minutes the oil would be visibly
cleaner. Not too long ago I learned about a by-pass filter offered by
Baldwin that was used on the longhaul trucks. Claims of 20 thousand miles to
an oil change were common. I obtained the filter (B50) and the Bracket
(OB1305) from Baldwin and installed the unit on my boat. Worked great.
Changing filters became a time thing because the oil was clean all the time.
Now I am rigging up the same set up on the GMC. The filter cost $3.86 and
the bracket was $19.09 plus tax. I am going to use some fancy braided line
that I got for free so I would guess at $5 for the tubing. If you are
interested I would be glad to fax you a copy of the Service Bulletin or try
Williams oil filter Service Co.. or 1-800-522-1250 here
in Tacoma. This does not replace the regular oil filter.

P.S. I see that Amsoil is offering a by-pass filter ass'y.
http://www.amsoil.com/ I bet it's more than $25
